Welcome to the exciting, dynamic, and sometimes challenging world of library instructional design. I wrote Instructional Design Essentials: A Practical Guide for Librarians to provide a handy manual to guide instructional design for current and future librarians who are called on to develop library instruction for student workers, volunteers, or staff members.

I wrote this book in part with the hope to share these sometimes complex and integrative ideas in a way that is clear and purposeful for librarians who teach but have little time or resources for formal training. In part, I am able to do this through the understanding gained through two master’s degree programs in educational technology and instructional design taken ten years apart.
